Deployment Technician

Greater Manchester, UK£32,000 per annum + Shift Allowance

About the role

We’re working with an established technology business that delivers large-scale IT deployments across the UK, supporting some of the country’s best-known hospitality and retail brands.

They’re looking for a Technical Deployment Coordinator to join their team, taking responsibility for the preparation, configuration and remote support of technology being rolled out across customer sites.

This would suit someone from an IT Support, Infrastructure, Systems or Deployment background who enjoys being hands-on with hardware, networking and Windows environments and wants to get more involved in project-based technical work.

The role

You’ll work closely with field engineers and internal project teams to make sure equipment and systems are configured, tested and ready ahead of installations.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Configuring and testing servers, switches, routers, laptops and other IT hardware
  • Preparing systems and files ahead of engineer deployments
  • Supporting engineers remotely during live installations
  • Configuring networks and troubleshooting connectivity issues
  • Working with Windows Server environments
  • Using VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines
  • Diagnosing hardware, software and networking issues
  • Carrying out quality checks before equipment is deployed
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Occasionally attending customer sites where additional technical support is required

There will also be some scripting involved, so any exposure to PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar would be useful. You don't need to be a developer or an advanced scripter.

What we're looking for

We're not too concerned about your current job title. You could currently be working as an IT Support Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer, Deployment Engineer or in a similar hands-on technical position.

What matters is that you're comfortable working with:

  • Windows Server
  • Networking, switches and routers
  • Hardware configuration and troubleshooting
  • VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • Remote technical support
  • Basic scripting or PowerShell

You'll need to be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting issues when things don't go to plan and communicating with engineers during live deployments.

Working hours

The standard working week is Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm.

As part of the role, you'll also support planned overnight deployment work. This is typically Sunday-Thursday, within a 10:00pm-6:00am window, working remotely from home.

Night deployment support is generally required for around one week per month, although some projects may require two weeks in a month. The role comes with a percentage-based bonus on top of the £32,000 basic salary to reflect the additional deployment work.

If you've got a solid grounding in infrastructure, networking and hardware and want a role where you'll be involved in genuine technical deployments rather than sitting on a service desk all day, we'd be keen to speak with you.

Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave
